My Commitments

My Commitments to You

I made five commitments during the campaign. I am one of 12 elected trustees, so I can't deliver any of them alone. Here is where each one stands, what the board has decided, and what comes next. Updated October 30, 2026.

Commitment 1: Excellence Through Merit

Priority for this term

What I committed to

Every child deserves a great teacher. I will push for hiring on merit, so the most qualified and capable educators lead our classrooms.

Where it stands

The 2026–2030 term begins on November 15. I will review the board's hiring policies and procedures and report what I find.

Next to watch

A review of current YRDSB hiring policies once committee appointments are made.

Commitment 2: Unity and Equality for All

Priority for this term

What I committed to

Schools should bring us together, not pull us apart. I will oppose discrimination, division, and segregation in every form. Every student is an individual, and every family deserves respect.

Where it stands

I will bring this lens to every policy the board reviews, and speak up when a proposal divides students instead of bringing them together.

Next to watch

Policy reviews scheduled by the board in the 2026–2027 school year.

Commitment 3: Keep Politics Out of the Classroom

Priority for this term

What I committed to

The classroom is for academics, skills, and critical thinking. I will keep politics out of schools, so the curriculum stays on core subjects and students stay focused on their education.

Where it stands

The board now requires advance notice to parents and age-appropriate content for external guest speakers. I will support applying that policy consistently in our schools.

Commitment 4: Real Support for Special Education

Priority for this term

What I committed to

Every student with special education needs deserves the resources to reach their potential. I will push for more funding and targeted support: specialist staff, smaller groups, Individual Education Plans (IEPs) backed by real people, and shorter waits for assessments.

  • More specialist staff: Smaller, focused learning groups for students who need intensive support.
  • IEPs backed by real people: An Individual Education Plan is only a promise until the staff and specialists are in place to deliver it.
  • Shorter waits for assessments: Early, expert help, before a student falls behind.

Where it stands

Special education staffing is set through the annual budget. I will press for specialist staff and shorter assessment waits in the next budget process.

The 2027–2028 budget process and the Special Education Advisory Committee.

Commitment 5: Restore School Resource Officers

Approved by the board

What I committed to

In 2021, YRDSB ended its partnership with York Regional Police. I committed to bringing officers back, so students learn about online safety, road and e‑bike safety, drugs, and human trafficking from officers they know and trust. Student safety comes before politics.

Where it stands

In 2026, trustees approved a motion to restore the partnership with York Regional Police, so officers can once again deliver safety presentations in schools. My job now is to make sure it reaches every school in our ward.
